PE 2/10 Got a cold? Go to the doctor!

I’ve just got a little cold. I’ve been blowing my nose all day and my cheeks and nose are chapped.
* chapped: skin that is dry and cracked, most often lips and hands
ex> Cold, dry air can leave your skin chapped.

You should get a shot and a prescription. In three days you’ll be the picture of health.
* the picture of health: someone who is never sick or injured, perfectly healthy
ex> My dad was always the picture of health, which is why it surprised everyone when he had a heart attack.

We get over-the-counter medicine – depending on the symptoms – and eat chicken soup. Or if you’re like me you just try to ignore it and hope that it goes away.
* over-the-counter (medicine): medicine that can be bought without a prescription
ex> Some over-the-counter medications have been found to be dangerous and are now available only by prescription.

Come on, I’ll take you to my family doctor before your cold takes on a life of its own.
* take on a life of its own: to not be under the control of anyone
ex> My Halloween party was supposed to be small, but by 11:00, it had taken on a life of its own.

Thanks, but I don’t think that’s necessary. I’ll bounce back in no time.
* bounce back: to return quickly from a setback; recover; get better; get well
ex> Getting fired isn’t the end of the world, you’ll bounce back in no time.

We Koreans don’t question our doctor’s suggestions.

* question: 의문을 제기하다
