For em, the most important thing in your life is to live your life with integrity and not to give in to peer pressure - to try to be something that you’re not; to live your life as an honest and compassionate person, to contribute in some way.

ex> I wasn’t going to have dessert, but the menu made me give in.

* peer pressure: influence from one’s friends and colleagues

ex> My teenage clothing choices were dictated by peer pressure.

* true to oneself: following one’s principles, ideals, and goals

* by all means: definitely; certainly

ex> If you need a ride, by all means just ask.

Don’t give advice, it will come back and bite you in the ass.

PE 10/3 A New Place to Work Out

I think need to find a new place to work out. My old gym recently changed hands and has developed kind of a seedy vibe.

* change hands: to be acquired by a new owner

ex> This book changed hands a few times before I got it.

* vibe: feeling; atmosphere; impression

ex> I got a good vibe from the candidate we interviewed yesterday.

Why not do your workouts in the park like I do? It gets full marks for cost-effectiveness.

* get full marks: to receive approval

ex> I got full marks for bringing flowers to my mother-in-law.

ex> That country’s government gets full marks for its diplomacy.

The only problem is that I’m a creature of habit. I don’t want to have to change my routine when the weather turns sour.

* creature of habit: one who follows a routine

ex> Dad is a creature of habit, and likes to have dinner at 6:15 every day.

* turn sour: to suddenly go badly; develop problems

ex> The weather turned sour halfway through our picnic.

Note> We also use the word “sour” to describe a certain look on your face. If you have a sour face, you’re probably annoyed, upset, or angry.

Well, new gyms are cropping up everywhere. It shouldn’t be too hard to find one.

* crop up: to appear; occur

Did you solve the mystery of what our little fashionista was up to?

You’d think it might dawn on furniture manufacturers that kids would jackknife onto their beds from great heights. Thankfully, it’s easy as pie to fix that thing. It’ll just take a little elbow grease - that’s all.

* dawn on one: to become understood

ex> It dawned on the detective that the killer was still in the room.

* easy as pie: very simple and unchallenging

ex> Geometry was easy as pie to my younger sister.

* elbow grease: physical effort at a task

ex> It took a lot of elbow grease to scrape the paint off those chairs.

At least we know our investment in the pool won’t go to waste.

* go to waste: to be unused or prematurely discarded

ex> Dan had another cookie because he didn’t want them to go to waste.
