12/6 Right-side Pedestrian Walking

DIALOG>> We walk on the right side of the street.

We used to walk on the left side of the street in the past.

Now, it's the right-hand side.

Research indicated that foot traffic becomes 1.2 times faster.

Korean pedestrians went through a major change several years ago.

People used to walk on the left-hand side of the street, but now it's the opposite.

The government launched an initiative to make the switch in October of 2009.

It released a study showing that it was more efficient for people to walk on the right-hand side.

It also argued that it could bring down car accidents by 20%.

Walking on the right side became official in July of 2010.

Signs and the direction of escalators were changed in places like subway stations accordingly.
