PE 10/7 Fall Fair Fiasco

Bob! Toby! Why so glum? You were such eager beavers when you two left for the meeting?
* eager beaver: one who is very enthusiastic
ex> Tracy is an eager beaver when we go to the swimming pool.

I was really excited to be on the planning committee, but every idea I presented was shot down in flames.
* shoot (something) down in flames: to strongly criticize an idea or plan
ex> I suggested we have company outing, but my boss shot it down in flames.

Emily Patterson’s mom really had it in for Dad.
* have it in for one: to be hostile towards one; intend to conquer one
ex> That one wasp seems to have it in for you.
ex> As time went on, it seemed more and more like my coworker had it in for me.

That woman has managed to poke holes in everything I’ve come up with so far.
* poke holes in something: to expose flaws in something
ex> Why are you poking holes in all my suggestions?

An old favorite: bobbing for apples. She said it was too dangerous. Dids aren’t any more accident prone than they used to be, are they? I don’t seem to recall my classmates dropping like flies at my old school’s fall fairs.
* accident prone: likely to be injured or suffer mishaps
ex> Jerry was accident prone, and always had a bandage on some part of his body.
* drop like flies: to die, fall down, or stop an activity in large numbers
ex> The marathon runners are dropping like flies in this terrible heat.

@ She has poked holes in everything I’ve come up with.  내가 제안한 모든 아이디어에서 그 여자는 허점을 찾아내더라니까!
proposed. /devised. /thought up.
