3/6 Talk about a car accident you were in.

I got into a pretty bad car accident several years ago.

ex> Luckily, I've never gotten into a car accident in my life.

I was entering an intersection, but there was a driver that was running a red light from the other direction.

* run a red light: 정지 신호를 무시하다

ex> I didn’t realize I was running a red light.

He totally came out of nowhere. I don’t think he had his eyes on the road.

* come out of nowhere: 난데없이 나타나다

We ended up crashing into each other.

* crash into each other: 서로 충돌하다

ex> The two vehicles crashed into each other head-on.

My hood was completely smashed in. I decided that my car was a write-off.

* be smashed in: 찌그러지다

ex> The rear bumper of my car was smashed in.

* write-off: 수리가 불가능한 상태, 완전히 파손된 상태

My car was totaled and had to be scrapped. I also got whiplash from the impact, and had to stay in the hospital for a couple of weeks.

* get whiplash: (사고 충격으로) 목 부상을 입다

ex> I got whiplash from being rear-ended.

* be totaled: 아예 못 쓰게 되다, 전파되다

Fortunately, the costs were all covered by insurance.

@ I took my car in for repairs.  차를 수리 맡겼어.

* almost: 거의 (~할 뻔한)
ex> We almost won the contest.

* get into a car accident: 자동차 사고를 당하다

* fender-bender: 가벼운 사고, 접촉사고

* cut: 끼어들다, 새치기를 하다
ex> It's really rude to cut in line.
ex> I told her not to cut in front of us.

* abruptly: 갑자기, 불쑥
ex> We were abruptly woken up in the night.

* slam on one's brake(s): to push on a vehicle's brakes suddenly and hard.  ex> The driver in front me slammed her brakes on and I nearly ran into her.

* fall off: 떨어지다

* scramble to: ~로 급히 움직이다  ex> All the teenagers scrambled for the rock star but couldn't catch him.

* make sure: 확실히 하다, 확인하다
ex> Can you make sure the gas is turned off?

* be shaken up: 충격을 받다
ex> We were pretty shaken up after the burglary.

The other guy rear-ended me.

His insurance company will cover everything.

I remember getting into a car accident a couple of years ago.
ex> He's still scarred from when he got into a car accident.

The car behind me wasn't paying attention and rear-ended me.
* rear-end: If a driver or vehicle rear-ends the vehicle in front, they crash into the back of it.
ex> He didn't see me and rear-ended me.
cf> rear-end (slang): 엉덩이
cf> run a red light: 정지 신호를 무시하다.

My back bumper was completely dented in.
* be dented in: 움푹 패이다, 찌그러지다.
ex> The side was dented in from the impact.

I also got whiplash from the impact.
* get whiplash: 목을 삐끗하다.
ex> She got whiplash from the rollercoaster ride.

I didn't have to stay in the hospital, but I had to wear a neck brace for a while.
* stay in the hospital: 입원하다.
= I wasn't hospitalized.
ex> I recommend you stay in the hospital overnight.
* neck brace: 목 안전대, 보호대

I got compensated for the damages.
* get compensated: 보상받다.

The other driver's insurance company covered all the expenses.
* cover all the expenses: 모든 비용을 처리하다.
ex> My husband covered all the expenses of our trip.


@ We can't keep on ignoring the problem.

1. Some car rear-ended me hard from behind.
2. Her car was dented in from the crash.
3. I remember getting whiplash in a crash.
4. My contract says that the company is supposed to cover all the expenses.
