I got
into a pretty bad car accident several years ago.
ex> Luckily, I've never gotten into a
car accident in my life.
I was
entering an intersection, but there was a driver that was running a red light from the other direction.
* run a red light: 정지 신호를 무시하다
ex> I didn’t realize I was running
a red light.
He totally came out of nowhere. I don’t think he had his eyes on the road.
* come out of nowhere: 난데없이 나타나다
We ended up crashing into each other.
* crash into each other: 서로 충돌하다
ex> The two vehicles crashed into
each other head-on.
My hood was completely smashed in. I decided that my car was a
write-off.
* be smashed in: 찌그러지다
ex> The rear bumper of my car was
smashed in.
* write-off: 수리가 불가능한 상태, 완전히 파손된 상태
My car was totaled and had to be
scrapped. I also got whiplash
from the impact, and had to stay in the
hospital for a couple of weeks.
* get whiplash: (사고 충격으로) 목 부상을 입다
ex> I got whiplash from being
rear-ended.
* be totaled: 아예 못 쓰게 되다, 전파되다
Fortunately, the costs were all covered by insurance.
