PE 7/9 Quentin Tarantino Interview, Part 2, "Too much Violence?"

Most critics feel your films make people sit up and take notice, but some critics say that the images you use are over the top. How do you respond to that?
* sit up and take notice: 주목하다, 주의하다
ex> The news of a aircraft crash in San Francisco made me sit up and take notice.
* over the top: 과장된, 지나친
ex> His performance is completely over the top.
ex> an over-the-top reaction

I want to affect people. Even if some people in the audience get up and leave before the movie is over, I feel good if it means I have struck a chord with the viewer and gotten a strong reaction.

ex> The romance in this book really strikes a chord with me.

Yes, I think people should look beneath the surface of things, but if they can't we probably have nothing to discuss anyway.

Bokbunja is a blackberry native to Korea.

PE 7/8 No Place Like Home

You are looking better today! I guess now that we are home you are finally on the mend. I was pretty worried about you when I saw you after the accident. 
* be on the mend: 회복 중이다
ex> I think he is on the mend, his face doesn't look so pale.
ex> Cellulitis on my foot is on the mend now.

That doctor you got after you got hit by that car was a real prince, wasn't he?
* be a real prince: 왕자병이 있다, 밥맛없게 굴다
ex> I mean no offence, but your ex-boyfriend is a real prince.

He didn't have the best bedside manner, did he? I thought if he smiled, his face might crack!

He started his professional career with the Hanhwa Eagles of Korea Professional Baseball in 2006.
In his rookie year, he became the first player to win the MVP and the Rookie of the Year award.
After nine seasons in the KPB, he signed to a six-year, $36 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers last December.
He is the first player to go directly from the Korean league to the major leagues.

7/5 Selling a Dream

I occasionally remember my dreams.
* occasionally: 가끔, 때때로
ex> Occasionally, she goes out drinking with her friends.

Some of them are very vivid and weird.
* vivid: 선명한, 생생한
ex> I have a lot of vivid memories form my childhood.

I was just sitting on a toilet, which was right in the middle of the road.
* in the middle of: ~의 중앙에, ~의 도중에
ex> She was in the middle of dinner when he visited her.
ex> His house was in the middle of nowhere.  (somewhere that is a long way from other buildings, towns, etc)
ex> He lives way out in the middle of nowhere, far away from everyone.

Without a second thought, I sold it to her.

ex> He ran into the burning house without a second thought.

Seeing things like feces, pigs, or even your ancestors in your dreams represents wealth.

Do you remember your dreams?
I occasionally remember my dreams and some of them are very vivid and weird.
I remember a particular dream I had a few years ago.

Then I saw donut-shaped human feces right in front of me!
When I told my mom about the dream, she immediately asked, “Why don’t you sell your dream to me? I’ll give you 50,000 won!”
Without a second thought, I sold it to her.
Later, she told me seeing things like feces, pigs, blood, or even your ancestors in your dreams represents wealth.
After purchasing my dream, my mom won the lottery!
Who said money can’t buy happiness?

PE 7/4 Pro Sports

No can do! We're going to the Rodin Gallery to see one of the original Thinker statues.

For Pete's sake! You promised we would see at least one of Philadelphia's pro sports teams play while we are here.

I do, but the Sixers suck this year.

She was known as one of the most influential figures of the 20th century.

It is undeniable that Mrs. Thatcher polarized opinion.
Most Britons who lived through her 11 years in power either love or loathe her.
Some idolize her for saving Britain from economic collapse while others bitterly criticize her for widening the gap between rich and poor.
