Most critics feel your films make people sit up and take notice, but some critics say that the images you use are over the top. How do you respond to that?
* sit up and take notice: 주목하다, 주의하다
ex> The news of a aircraft crash in San Francisco made me sit up and take notice.
* over the top: 과장된, 지나친
ex> His performance is completely over the top.
ex> an over-the-top reaction
I want to affect people. Even if some people in the audience get up and leave before the movie is over, I feel good if it means I have struck a chord with the viewer and gotten a strong reaction.
* strike a chord with: ~의 마음을 움직이게 하다, 심금을 울리다
ex> The romance in this book really strikes a chord with me.
Yes, I think people should look beneath the surface of things, but if they can't we probably have nothing to discuss anyway.
* look beneath the surface: 내면을 보다, 핵심을 파악하다
ex> He seems like just a funny guy until you look beneath the surface.
