PE 6/6 Internet Problem Requires Patience


* dead in the water: unable to proceed or succeed
ex> Our project will be dead in the water if we can’t get funding.

* splice [splaɪs]: 잇다, 붙이다
ex> splice a wire with tape

* all by oneself: alone; without help or company
ex> I’m amazed that our daughter built that tree fort all by herself.

* pour on the coal: to speed up; increase one’s efforts
ex> You’ll have to pour on the coal if you want to finish the weeding before supper.


* With all due respect: said before disagreeing with someone in a polite or formal situation; 외람된 말씀입니다만
ex> With all due respect, I believe that you are incorrect about what that thing is.


* talk one’s ear off: to speak excessively to someone
ex> I’m late because the lady upstairs talked my ear off in the hallway.
