PE 7/6 Where to Find Help

* pick one’s brains: to use a persons’ mental assistance (for advice, information, problem solving, etc.)
ex> Can I pick your brains about which phone I should get?

* not know the first thing about something: to have no skills or knowledge about something
ex> Our students range from experts to those who don’t know the first thing about wine.

* draw a blank: to not find anything; get no response; fail at something
ex> I always draw a blank when I see my combination lock.
Note> Have you ever given a speech or a presentation and have completely forgotten your lines or what to say? That’s what we call “drawing a blank.”

* land a hand: to provide assistance
ex> We’ll finish quickly if everyone will lend a hand.

* hand-holding: attention, support, or instruction
ex> I prefer employees who don’t need much hand-holding.

* take/pick up the ball and run with it: to further develop an existing idea, activity, process, etc
ex> I’ll show you what needs to be done, but you must take the ball and run with it.

@ You can have people bidding on your project in a jiffy.
