PE 5/1 London – London Eye

I’m afraid of heights and yet you somehow talked me into going on the world’s biggest Ferris wheel! What’s wrong with this picture?
* what’s wrong with this picture?: a way of pointing out an obvious flaw in a situation without actually saying it
ex> We’re almost out of gas and we’re 100 miles from the nearest gas station. What’s wrong with this picture?

It’s not a big deal, Rhonda. Do you think they would even open this if it wasn't up to snuff?
* up to snuff: at an acceptable level of quality
ex> Rachel doesn't think Rick deserves an A in the class because his work isn't up to snuff.

What do people here think of it? Because I don’t know if I would refer to it as the “Eye” as much as the “eyesore.”
* eyesore: something that is unattractive or ugly
ex> Some people think the sculpture at the top of Cheonggye-cheon is an eyesore.

I don’t think you’re the first one to come up with that joke. but it seems to have grown on people here.
* come up with: to think of a clever idea or phrase
ex> The scientist thought he might have come up with a solution to the vexing problem.

I imagine it’s probably helpful for getting your bearings when you’re lost in London. Just look up!
* get one’s bearings: to figure out in which direction one is traveling

ex> Once we get our bearings, we’ll be able to find the hidden treasure.
