PE 8/5 Bob in a Boat

* landlubber: a person who is not experienced with boats
ex> Irene is a landlubber who gets seasick easily.

* give someone a hard time: to scold, criticize, or tease someone, sometimes humorously
ex> My boss gave me a hard time about being late.
ex> Don’t give me a hard time: I’ve had a rough day.

* run aground: to encounter difficulty and be unable to proceed; (of a boat) get stuck on the ocean floor
ex> The fishing boat ran aground on a reef.
ex> Our research project ran aground when its funding dried up.

* sea legs: the ability to walk on a boat without becoming dizzy or sick
ex> It took us three days to get our sea legs.

* admit defeat: to accept that one has failed at something
ex> I won’t admit defeat until the last marble is gone.

* go overboard: to fall off a boat; do something to excess; be too eager
ex> Decorate the office for the party, but don’t go overboard.
Note> When you become a new mother, it’s easy to go overboard. You buy ridiculously expensive clothes for the baby, disinfect the whole house every day, and read about ten books to the baby in one day.
