PE 8/30 Gabrielle Giffords - Scripps College Commencement Speech


* have a voice: to be acknowledged; have one’s opinions heard
ex> From an early age, my parents made me feel I had a voice.

* calling: an urge toward a specific occupation; one’s usual profession
ex> I’m very sorry Dad, but being a doctor is not my calling.

* dawn on one: to be realized by one; enter one’s awareness
ex> It just dawned on me where I left my phone.
ex> Didn’t it dawn on you that the screen door might be closed?

* focus one’s energies: to apply most of one’s efforts and attention
ex> For now, I just want to focus my energies on surviving this semester.

* make a living: to earn an income for providing for one’s basic material needs
ex> William left home as soon as he was old enough to make a living.

* byproduct / by-product: something that happens or is created as a result of something else
ex> Molasses is a byproduct of sugar refining.
ex> My friendship with Anna is a by-product of having worked together.

@ I realized then and there what my heart was saying.  그때 그곳에서 제 마음이 저에게 하는 소리를 들었습니다.
