Gim.
Gim is a type of seaweed which is edible. It tastes good and is a very popular side dish in Korea. Gim is
rich in dietary minerals, particularly iodine and iron. Gim is made by collecting laver from the
sea and drying it out in sheets. Once it is dried, people spread sesame oil or
perilla oil on the sheet. Then they add salt and lightly roast it. By being
prepared this way, Gim adds a
roasted, salty flavor to the rice Koreans eat. You can make gimbab with it, which is very similar to rolls. Gim can also be shredded and added as toppings to soups or other rice dishes.
