10/16 Seodaemun Prison

Many of the buildings that were built during the Japanese occupation period were either destroyed or torn down.
* tear down: 허물다, 해체하다
ex> They tore down the oldest building in my town.

A handful of buildings still stand to this day as a reminder of our past.
* handful:  소수, 소량
* to this day: 오늘날까지, 지금까지도  = to date, up to now
ex> To this day, I still don't know why she was mad at me.

Seodaemun Prison represents the bravery of the Korean independence activities and inhumane cruelties committed by the Japanese.
* cruelty: 잔학 행위, 잔인함
* inhumane: 비인간적인
ex> He is an inhumane dictator who starves his people.

So many freedom fighters were tortured and then killed by Japanese soldiers in the prison.
* torture: 고통을 주다, 고문하다
ex> Don't torture yourself over the past.

As the saying goes, those who forget the past have no future.
* as the saying goes: 격언에 있는 바와 같이
ex> "More haste, less speed," as the saying goes.


@ Justice will be served.  정의는 실현될 거야.

1. They are trying to tear down an historic building.
2. I don't smoke to this day.
3. You can imprison my body, but not my soul.
4. My back really torturing me right now.
