10/3 Gaecheonjeol

Talk about Gaecheonjeol in Korea.

Today is Gaecheonjeol in Korea. We celebrate the founding of Gojoseon, ancient Korea, by Emperor Dangun in 2333 BC.

Gaecheonjeol means "opening of heaven." The source comes from Korea's foundation myth.

This refers to when Hwanung left his place in the heavens to live with mankind.

It is said to have been erected by Dangun in thanks to his ancestors, the gods of heaven.

The mythical story of Korea's birth is related to each and every Korean since childhood.
