Nick, I’m thinking about becoming a
vegetarian after reading an article about how animals are mistreated.
Are there any negative effects? I mean,
will I kick myself for giving up
meat?
* kick oneself: to regret something
ex> I've been kicking myself
for not taking the job I was offered.
Of course there are some. Your body will
crave certain foods and you may suffer from headaches or irritability in the beginning,
but you’ll adjust if you tough it out.
* tough it out: to continue doing
something despite discomfort or pain
ex> It’s only a sprained ankle – I
think I can touch it out until the end of the game.
Do you want to go whole hog – excuse the expression – and become a complete vegan?
* go whole hog: to do something as
thoroughly as possible; be extravagant
ex> For my wedding, I went whole
hog and hired a band and an ice carver.
ex> The complication went whole
hog because of the constant antagonism between employers and employees.
Can’t I just pop a fish oil pill?
* pop: to throw something into one’s
mouth
ex> Whenever Jane starts to feel
sick, she pops a couple of vitamin C pills.
There’s so much to keep in mind for such
a complete one-eighty in my life.
* a one-eighty (180): an extreme, rapid
change; a complete turn of 180 degrees
ex> The political candidate made a
one-eighty on his opinion when he found out how unpopular it was.
