PE 3/11 Charlie Sanders’ “Hi Mom” Speech

There were a lot of aunts, uncles, and cousins. And it was everybody’s responsibility for your upbringing.
* upbringing: the way one is raised from childhood
ex> She had a unique upbringing because her parents were biologists who spent a lot of time in the jungle.

And the worst spankings you got were not from your parents. It was all for one, one for all.
* all for one, one for all: to act as a group; united
ex> The motto of the Three Musketeers was “all for one and one for all.”

She had no regard for five-yard hand-offs.
* hand off / hand-off: to pass something to someone else; turn over responsibility to another person
ex> The quarterback made a hand-off to the running back, who ran the ball in for a touchdown.
ex> The story was handed off to the editor when it was completed.

She taught me to work hard, to stand proud, and to give in to nothing, and for that I am very appreciative.
* give in: to acquiesce; no longer resist something
ex> Tom gave in to his desire to eat the entire pie.

He quickly became known as a no-nonsense professor with an emphasis on work and education.
* no-nonsense: a serious attitude that lacks any humor
ex> A no-nonsense guy like Cedric can be hard to work for.

<Practice Makes Perfect>
1.      My strict religious upbringing made for an unhappy childhood.
2.      Strong team approach their games with a one for all, all for one attitude.
3.      I handed off the project to the co-worker for the final touches.
4.      Try not to give in to your anger when you deal with stupid people.
5.      His no-nonsense attitude led him to becoming a great lawyer.
