9/23 Postpartum Depression

My friend seemed out of sorts after her child was born.
* out of sorts: 기분이 좋지 않은, 몸 상태가 안좋은
ex> Your father seemed out of sorts at dinner.
ex> She was tired and out of sorts by the time she arrived home.

I thought it was just the "baby blues" or she was tired.
* baby blue: 출산 후의 우울증

But her symptoms got worse and she turned into an emotional train wreck.
* train wreck: 망가짐, 엉망진창인 사람
ex> This wedding is turning into a train wreck.
ex> He felt an absolute wreck.
ex> Your car is a wreck.

One minute she was fine, and the next she was on the verge of a breakdown.
* on the verge of: ~의 직전에, ~하기 전전에 = be about to
ex> He's on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
* breakdown: 신경쇠약, = nervous breakdown

It's quite a frequent occurrence and you should watch out for the signs.
* watch out for: ~에 대해 주의하다, ~을 조심하다, ~을 경계하다
ex> Watch out for jellyfish when you're in the sea.

Mood swings, anxiety, crying spells, and depression that last for more than a few weeks are some symptoms.
* crying spell: 펑펑 우는 울음, 주체할 수 없는 울음

In severe cases, people lose interest in their babies.
* in severe cases: 심각한 경우에
ex> In severe cases, people lose their jobs.


@ She's such a nag.  그녀는 잔소리가 너무 심해.

1. He seems to be out of sorts after his divorce.
2. The party was train wreck because everyone got drunk and fought.
3. I'm on the verge of breaking up with him.
4. In severe cases of depression, people think of suicide.
