PE 7/21 A Garbage Strike?! Gross!

What is that smell, Anthony? I parked my car in front of your house and I can’t seem to shake it.
* shake: to release something; get away from something
ex> I was sick for two weeks. I just couldn't shake that cold.
ex> As hard as we tried, we couldn't shake the car that was following us.

It’s kind of a catch-22 situation.
* catch-22: a problem with no easy solution; a conundrum
ex> Needing experience in order to get a first job is a common catch-22 for college graduates.

It seems like the problem has come to a head. Maybe you and your neighbors can get together and hire someone with a pickup truck to haul it to the dump.
* come to a head: to come to a point when a problem must be dealt with
ex> Everything came to a head when the divorcing couple couldn't agree on who got custody of the dog.
ex> The situation came to a head when a crack appeared in the dam above the village.

I would rather grin and bear it than let some greedy union walk all over me!
* grin and bear it: to accept what is going on without complaint
= swim with the tide; go with the flow; just deal with it
ex> Celia had to grin and bear it when she found out she failed English again.
* walk all over someone: to take advantage of someone’s weakness
ex> I hate when people try to walk all over me just because I’m shy.
